Payment orchestration
Payment orchestration is a layer that connects several providers and acquirers through one integration and decides where each payment goes.
Instead of integrating every provider separately, the merchant connects to one platform, which then works with all connected PSPs, acquirers and alternative payment methods.
Typical features: rule-based routing (country, currency, amount, card type), cascading on declines, a single card token vault, unified reporting and reconciliation. This helps raise the approval rate and avoid depending on a single provider.
Orchestration does not replace acquiring: you still need contracts with providers, and the platform adds its own fee. It usually pays off once you already have several providers or a noticeable share of payments is declined.
